In most cases, no. A Spanish civil marriage is processed through the Registro Civil of the municipality where at least one partner is registered as resident, and visiting couples do not meet that test, so nearly every foreign couple completes the legal civil marriage at home and holds the Mallorca ceremony as a symbolic one — which requires no paperwork and can take place anywhere, including at a venue with no licence. The main exception is a Catholic church wedding, which is open to non-residents and is registered in Spain, but the file goes through the diocese and needs baptism certificates, so start at least six months out. Confirm the current position with the relevant Registro Civil before you book anything, and budget for apostilles and sworn Spanish translations of any foreign documents.

Saturdays from May to early October are the constraint, and the small exclusive-use properties go first: Castell Son Claret has 43 rooms and one estate, and Cap Rocat is a single fortress, so twelve to eighteen months is the working assumption for either. The council-run option is a different kind of lead time rather than a shorter one — Castell de Bellver requires a written application at least 45 days before the date, but you then need every supplier lined up independently, so treat that 45 days as the last deadline rather than the plan. Inland estates around Montuïri, Esporles and Binissalem tend to have more give, particularly midweek.

There is no honest single figure, because the island sells two different things. Municipal monuments publish flat hire fees and nothing else — Castell de Bellver's parade ground is €2,500 for a seven-hour day and its chapel €400 — but that price buys an empty building, so catering, furniture, lighting, sound and staff all arrive as separate invoices that typically dwarf the hire. Estate hotels and fincas quote the other way round, as a per-head package with the space effectively bundled in, which is why a venue that looks expensive on paper can end up cheaper than a monument. Ask every venue for a total for your actual guest count rather than comparing headline rates.

Almost everyone flies into Palma's Son Sant Joan airport, which puts Son Julia at fifteen minutes and Cap Rocat, Esporles and Binissalem all within about half an hour, so a single base near Palma works for most guest lists. Venues in the Tramuntana are the exception: Son Marroig above Deià and Finca Comassema in the Orient valley are reached by mountain roads that suit minibuses and taxis rather than a coach, and the drive takes longer than the distance suggests. Arrange transport centrally rather than leaving guests to hire cars, since drink-driving home from a rural finca at 2am is not a plan, and rural taxis are scarce late at night in summer.
