Duisburg weddings divide between the industrial monuments and the river villages, and the split is geographic as much as stylistic. A stone residential tower raised in the late twelfth century — the oldest standing secular building in Duisburg — sits at the centre of an estate that was a road and customs station first, a tenant farm for the four centuries after that, and a cultural venue only since 2008. Five rooms carry the names of neighbouring Huckingen farms: the 800-square-metre Festhalle takes 440 at tables or 900 standing, the Biegerhof at 200 square metres seats 170, and the Kreifeltshof and Böckum at 100 each hold a civil ceremony for about 40. It is one of the registry office's licensed addresses, at €100 on top of the €300 registrar's fee, so the legal step and the party happen inside the same gate. Once a guest list runs past 250 this is realistically the only conventional room in the city that absorbs it.

The blowing house of the shuttered Meiderich ironworks was where the machinery that fed air to the furnaces stood, and the compressors are still in the room. Six spaces make up the complex — a 400-square-metre Theatersaal seating 500 with a fixed stage, the 619-square-metre Maschinenfoyer used for dinner, a 355-square-metre Pumpenhalle taking 180 at tables, plus the Foyer, Kompressorenraum and Hüttenmagazin. Brick, riveted steel and a very high ceiling do the decorating, which is either the entire appeal or entirely wrong for you; there is no middle position. The wider park adds outdoor ceremony ground and, in the neighbouring Kraftzentrale, capacity running into the thousands.

Out on the far side of the Rhine, in a protected landscape area that reaches the Moers boundary, an 1892 main house and barn have been converted into a restaurant with three quite different rooms behind it. The Lindensaal is the formal one, open to a roof structure some six metres up; the Atelier is finished as an industrial loft, and a smaller club room handles intimate numbers. The registry office licensed the estate in May 2026 and holds ceremonies on Thursdays and Fridays plus the first Saturday of the month, outdoors on the meadow or beach when the weather allows, with the Heustadl barn kept back as the wet-weather fallback. It is booked further ahead than anything else on this list — twelve to eighteen months is normal.

Purpose-built for large private parties rather than converted into them, the Angerhof sits in the Rhine floodplains at the point where Duisburg meets Düsseldorf-Kaiserswerth. The Großer Saal runs to 300 square metres and 200 guests, a Kleiner Saal takes 50, and a foyer and bar lounge of about 100 square metres handles the reception hour between them. Terraces of roughly 200 square metres wrap the whole building with direct doors from both halls, which matters for a summer evening and for anyone who needs the party to spill outdoors without a walk. A sensible choice when the guest list is 150 to 200 and you would rather have a functioning kitchen than exposed brickwork.

A sun terrace with its own bar holds around 150 and faces the Rhine, with a shaded terrace and a covered veranda beside it; the main hall and a smaller side room take the party inside, seating up to 120 for when the evening turns. Ehingen is about as far south as Duisburg goes, so there is parking at the door and none of the city around it. The booking earns its money on a long daylight reception that runs from an afternoon drink on the terrace into dinner, and makes very little sense hired as an indoor room alone.

Two minutes on foot from Duisburg Hauptbahnhof, the cubus stands in the Kantpark showing contemporary art and hiring out the same rooms for private parties. The Festsaal is the party room — daylight, blackout blinds, a stage, and room for a couple of hundred — with a lounge and bar of about 60 square metres serving as the arrival and catering space and a garden of some 400 square metres off the back. Around it runs roughly 700 square metres of exhibition floor, so a walk through whatever is hanging that month folds into the day in a way no hotel foyer can match. One caveat worth knowing early: the registry office does not licence the building, so the civil ceremony happens elsewhere and the cubus becomes the reception.

With 109 bedrooms upstairs, the accommodation question closes with the same signature, so nobody is driving back over the Rhine at two in the morning. Five spots inside the zoo are licensed for civil ceremonies: the Chinese Garden, the Tigerturm, the Entdeckerhaus, the Koalahaus and the Luchshütte. The zoo charges €405, which includes admission for the couple, and the room is yours for exactly one hour before it goes back to normal visitor traffic — only the lower floor of the Tigerturm and the Entdeckerhaus can be held longer. Be clear that this is a ceremony venue and nothing more: there is no function room, the on-site catering is self-service, and the most you can arrange afterwards is coffee and cake at the Africa Lodge. The zoo also states plainly that it cannot guarantee the animals will be anywhere in view.

Ruhrort's public baths opened in 1910 with two separate swimming halls, one for men and one for women, tall round-arched windows and Jugendstil detail over a late-historicist frame. Swimming stopped in 1986 and the museum moved in after a long renovation in 1998; the pools are gone and the halls hold Germany's largest collection of inland shipping, the tjalk Goede Verwachting standing where the men's pool was and the children's ship Hermann in the women's hall. Ceremonies use both halls, and the museum's own Siamo Qui restaurant handles the meal afterwards. Ruhrort is the old harbour quarter, so the photographs run straight from the tiled hall out to the docks.

Built in 1922, the Oscar Huber hauled trains of up to seven unpowered barges upriver until diesel push-boats made her redundant at the end of the 1950s, and she is the one Rhine paddle-wheel tug that escaped the scrapyard. Ceremonies use the deck and the old ship's mess, and the season is short: Easter to the end of October, nothing outside it. Numbers are capped by the size of the deck rather than by any policy, so plan on the couple, the witnesses and a small group, with the celebration arranged somewhere else afterwards. Booking runs through the shipping museum a short walk along the towpath, not through a venue office.
