The 10 best wedding venues in Dietikon

Most Dietikon marriages are made legal in the Trauzimmer of the Stadthaus on Bremgartnerstrasse, then move a few streets for the party — to the renovated Stadthalle Dietikon on Fondlistrasse, the banquet floor at Restaurant Bären on the station square, or the vaulted cellar under the Taverne zur Krone, which doubles as one of the registrar's own ceremony rooms. The town's strangest option is the Bruno Weber Park, a concrete sculpture garden on the slope above the vineyards that takes receptions of up to a hundred. Couples wanting something older or greener cross into the neighbouring Limmattal villages, where Schlössli Weiningen, the vineyard cellar at the Winzerhaus and the reopened Wirtschaft Zwei Raben at Kloster Fahr all take wedding parties. Above a few hundred guests the valley narrows to two rooms: the Stadthalle's own Eventhalle, and the former NZZ press hall at JED in Schlieren.

No other building in town can absorb a guest list in the high hundreds, and this one has recently been renovated. Hire is floor by floor: a 1,070 m² Eventhalle at ground level, a basement of the same footprint, a 270 m² upper floor that seats 220 for a banquet, plus a 75 m² bar and a 40 m² meeting room for the hour before the ceremony. It is a municipal hall rather than a decorative one, so the character of the day arrives with the florist — what the building supplies is a flat floor, modern rigging, parking and a rental office that quotes per room instead of per head.

The Bären sits on the station square itself, which makes it the default when half the guest list arrives by train and nobody wants to arrange transfers. The house puts its ceiling in writing — events of up to 250 people — and cooks Swiss food with a southern accent, cordon bleu and pizza sharing a menu with the daily specials. Four free parking spaces sit at the door and the building is wheelchair accessible, which matters on a square where everything else is metered. There is also a Kegelbahn on site that couples fold into the late half of the evening.

Walls more than three centuries old on Kronenplatz, run by Heinz and Maria de Lourdes Schenkel. The registrar's list of ceremony rooms includes this building, which is the rare case in the district of a restaurant where the legal formality and the dinner happen at one address. Five spaces are let separately — the Gewölbe-Keller for 60 to 70, the Kronen-Saal for 40 to 50, a brasserie for about 36, a bistro for about 20 and the restaurant itself for 40 to 45 — so a wedding can put dinner and a late bar in different rooms without anyone leaving the building. The kitchen is lighter and more modern than the age of the house suggests, and there is a garden for the aperitif.

Concrete dragons, winged beasts and fantastical towers, built over decades by one artist on the slope above the vines and billed as the largest sculpture park in Switzerland. Two spaces are let for private use — the Wassergartensaal and the terrace beside the Doppelflügelhund — each taking up to a hundred for a banquet or an apéro. Nothing else in the Limmattal photographs like it, which cuts both ways: it rewards couples happy for the setting to be the loudest thing in the room, and it will fight a formal black-tie evening. Enquire by phone or email, because the booking link on the park's own site was dead when this guide was checked.

The Zivilstandsamt sits in the same building at Bremgartnerstrasse 22, and the Trauzimmer heads the registrar's published list of nine ceremony rooms — the others are council chambers, a village museum, a meeting room and two restaurants scattered across the district. Dates are accepted six months out, while the marriage-preparation file cannot be opened earlier than three months before, so the booking and the paperwork never move at the same speed. Saturday ceremonies happen once a month and the dates are published a year or more ahead; everything else is a working day.

Weiningen's municipality lets this small manor out room by room, and one of those rooms sits on the Dietikon registrar's list of nine places where a ceremony can be held — which is why couples wanting the legal formality and the dinner at a single address with real age keep landing here. The letting runs to an 83 m² Saal for 20 to 80, the Wappenzimmer for up to 30, an 88 m² cellar taking 15 to 60, the Sala Terrena for around 30 and a small side room, and the whole building can be taken at once. Kitchens come with both the Saal and the cellar, so catering is a decision rather than a constraint.

Built into the Weiningen vineyard just across the Limmat from Dietikon, the cellar stores wine at its own steady temperature and behaves accordingly — cool, enclosed and rustic, with the valley opening out below the door. Two rooms take between ten and sixty guests, and the restaurant above it is listed separately and quoted considerably larger, so it is worth naming which of the two you mean when you enquire. The kitchen leans on meat and fish off the grill with regional produce, and a terrace opens for the summer months. It reads best as a small autumn or winter wedding, or as the dinner after a ceremony held somewhere else.

The inn beside the Benedictine convent at Fahr reopened on 1 May 2026 after a long closure, run now by Fahr Erlebnis AG rather than by the sisters, with a kitchen built around preserving and fermenting the house's own certified-organic produce. Groups of ten to a hundred and twenty are taken for banquets and celebrations, and the wine comes from the convent's own vineyard and cellar. Two things make the site unusual. The terrace and garden sit on the bank of the Limmat a short drive from central Zürich, and the ground is an Aargau exclave belonging to Würenlos, so a civil ceremony here goes through the regional registrar at Wettingen rather than Dietikon. Those ceremonies happen in the convent's Propstei, in the Abtstube for ten or the Vier Jahreszeiten for twenty — neither served by a lift, and neither step-free.

The Neue Zürcher Zeitung was printed in this building until the presses left, and the 1,100 m² Eventhalle that took their place holds up to 840 people, with wedding packages quoted as far as 500. Smaller configurations exist inside the same shell — Offset, a 240 m² banquet room for 180; a vaulted Taverne; the in-house Eve's Kitchen with 130 seats outdoors; and a park that absorbs a standing reception of 1,500. Three kilometres from Dietikon and three train stops from Zürich main station, this is the valley's industrial option, built for scale, with its own parking and a full technical rig.

Records put a farmhouse on this spot in 1464; the building was taken down in 1985 and rebuilt to plans drawn in 1532, and since 2015 the Stiftung Arbeitskette has run it as a training and reintegration business — a working restaurant whose staff are learning the trade in it. Downstairs the Gaststube holds 50 to 55 and the Stübli 30, with a garden for 66 to 68 and three separate outdoor spots for the apéro. The catch is upstairs: the Zelgstube for 55 and the 140-seat hall are let by the reformed parish of Schlieren rather than by the restaurant, so a large wedding books the room from the church and the food from the kitchen, on two phone calls.

Saturday ceremonies in Dietikon happen once a month. Can we legally marry in Dietikon if neither of us lives in Switzerland?

A civil marriage performed by a Swiss registrar is a full legal marriage, and you do not need to repeat the civil ceremony in your own country for it to be valid — though many countries require you to register the Swiss certificate with them afterwards, and some will want it legalised or apostilled first, so check with your own consulate before you book flights. Note that the Zivilstandsamt Dietikon describes itself as the office for couples resident in the Bezirk Dietikon or in Bergdietikon, so a couple living abroad should confirm with the office directly which registrar is competent for them before fixing a date. Everything then runs through the Ehevorbereitungsverfahren, and the documents required differ from couple to couple depending on nationality and previous marriages. Start that conversation early: the file itself cannot be opened more than three months before the date, and the paperwork for foreign nationals can take considerably longer than that to assemble.

How far ahead should we book, and where can we put more than 200 guests?

The registrar and the venue run on different clocks, and this catches people out. The Zivilstandsamt takes a ceremony date six months in advance and cannot open the preparation file earlier than three months before, while Saturday ceremonies in Dietikon happen only once a month — so book the reception venue first and slot the ceremony in when the window opens. For large numbers the shortlist is short: the Stadthalle Dietikon seats 220 on its upper floor and holds several hundred more downstairs, Restaurant Bären takes events to 250, the hall at the Stürmeierhuus in Schlieren seats 140, and JED in Schlieren quotes wedding packages up to 500. Most of the older and more characterful rooms in the valley top out somewhere between 60 and 100.
