Practical guidance by Wedvite ·
The date is ready. The venue can follow.
You can announce a confirmed wedding date without pretending every detail is finished. The key is to distinguish ‘we have not chosen the venue’ from ‘we have not confirmed the date’. A Save the Date should give guests something dependable to save.
Free static Save the Date · No RSVP. Full invitation with RSVP available as a paid upgrade.
No credit card. Unlimited guests. Hosted through your wedding date and at least 90 days afterwards. Optional extras cost more.

Use this only when the date is genuinely settled
If your date depends on which venue becomes available, wait before asking guests to reserve it. You can browse designs or prepare a draft now. If the date is fixed independently, such as a confirmed ceremony, a simple date announcement can go ahead with an honest note about the reception details.
A city is useful; a fictional address is not
In Wedvite’s free Save the Date, location is optional. Add the city or region if it is confirmed, or leave the location blank. Do not type a sample street, a venue you are considering or an arbitrary map point just to fill the field. Your message can say ‘venue details to follow’ without suggesting that travel bookings are already safe.
Update the link, then tell people what changed
When the venue is booked, edit the announcement and check the published page. An existing link can show the updated details, but an old screenshot or downloaded image will not change. Send a short follow-up to the people who need the information; an edit alone is not a notification.
- Keep a record of who received the original announcement.
- Download a fresh image if you used one before.
- Move to a full paid invitation when you need timings, guest replies and RSVP.

Date and city confirmed
Save the date! Jamie & Morgan, 17 July 2027, Bristol. Please keep the day free. We are finalizing the venue and will send the invitation and address later: [published link].
Only name the city if it is settled.
Venue follow-up
A little update for our wedding on 17 July: the venue is now confirmed as [venue, city]. We have updated our page here: [published link]. The full invitation will follow.
Do not say ‘new venue’ unless you are changing a previously announced venue.
Before you share
- Confirm that the date does not still depend on a venue search.
- Leave unknown location fields blank instead of inventing details.
- State clearly which information will follow.
- Notify guests directly when a change affects their plans.

Your questions, answered
Can I leave the location blank?
Yes. The location is optional on the free Save the Date. Add it when it is confirmed.
Can I change the location after sharing?
Yes. Edit the page and check the existing published link. Tell guests separately about important updates; saved images and messages do not update themselves.
What if the wedding date is not confirmed either?
Prepare a private draft, but wait to publish a date announcement. A provisional date can cause unnecessary travel and calendar problems.
