The Plaza Hotel
Historic hotel ballroomFifth Avenue at Central Park South, Midtown ManhattanUp to 500 seated; 1,000 for a reception
Open since 1907 and still the reference point for a formal New York wedding. The Grand Ballroom takes 500 for a seated dinner and a thousand standing — the room that held Truman Capote's Black and White Ball — and one level below it the Terrace Room carries crystal chandeliers made by Charles Winston, modeled on the ones at Versailles. Catering is in-house, and the practical case for booking a hotel at all is that a large out-of-town guest list sleeps upstairs.
