Free digital wedding invitations: what free really covers
Written by the Wedvite founders
Yes, you can design a digital wedding invitation on Wedvite for free and share the link with your first 10 guests at no cost, with the envelope, map and RSVP form working. You pay $49 once to publish it for unlimited guests, the full photo gallery and your RSVP dashboard. No ads, and no card needed to start.
Wedvite's list price is $89. This code brings it to $49, applied automatically at checkout:

What the free link already does
The full invitation, not a sample
Guests on the free link see the same design, envelope, schedule, map and RSVP a paying couple publishes, with your own wording. No watermark sits across it.
See it →RSVP that counts from day one
Replies from the free link are saved and appear in your RSVP dashboard when you publish, so nobody is asked to answer twice.
See it →A meter you can see
The share sheet shows how many of your 10 free guests have opened the link, so the limit never takes you by surprise.
The same link after you pay
Publish, and the link you already sent opens the live invitation. There is nothing to resend and no new address to explain.
Shared to WhatsApp in a tap
Copy the link or send it straight into a chat from the share sheet; it arrives with a preview card of your invitation.

Competitor prices and features were read from the official pages on 15 September 2026: Evite, Paperless Post, Greenvelope, Joy (withjoy.com). A cell reading "not verified on 15 September 2026" means the vendor's page did not state that figure on that date, so we leave it out rather than guess. Competitor prices are in US dollars; Wedvite's row is our own price in your currency. Prices change; confirm on the vendor's page before you buy.
Is a truly free wedding invitation possible?
For a short list, almost. On Wedvite the design work is always free: pick a design, write every line, add the schedule, the venue and the RSVP questions, and nothing is charged. You can then send the link to your first 10 guests, and they get the whole invitation, including the RSVP form. The one thing held back is the gallery: up to 3 photos until you publish, the full gallery after. Replies are saved as they arrive, but you read them in your dashboard once you publish, so even a small wedding usually ends with a payment.
For a full wedding list, every free option asks for something in return. Evite's free designs cover a long list but show ads beside your invitation. Paperless Post lets you send its first 50 invitations without paying, as a plain card with no envelope. Greenvelope's trial stops at 10 people. Joy is free for any number of guests, but its free card has no envelope at all. Free usually means ads, a cap or a plainer card.
What happens when your list goes past the free guests?
The share sheet tells you before it happens. Once 10 different people have opened the free link, it pauses for anyone new, who sees a short page saying the invitation is almost ready. Guests who already opened it keep their access, and so do you. Nothing is deleted and no reply is lost: the RSVPs guests have sent are kept and move into your dashboard when you publish.
To open it for everyone, you pay $49 once. That covers unlimited guests, every edit you make afterwards and hosting through your wedding date and at least 90 days after. There is no monthly fee and nothing is charged per guest. The link you already sent keeps working and now opens the live invitation, so the guests who saw it early need no second message.
Is the free version watermarked or full of ads?
No. The free link shows the invitation clean: no watermark across the design, no ribbon and no adverts, and the only section held back is the full photo gallery, which shows 3 photos until you publish. The only brand mark is the small “Made with love by Wedvite” line in the footer, and that line sits on every Wedvite invitation, paid ones included, so publishing does not change how the page looks to a guest.
That matters because a free invitation is still the first thing your family sees of the wedding. An invitation with an advert beside it, or one that asks guests to create an account before they can reply, reads very differently from one that opens straight onto your names. Every guest on the free link replies without signing up for anything.
When is a different free tool the better choice?
If you want a full wedding website with a registry and do not mind a card without an envelope, Joy costs nothing at any guest count. If the invitation is for an informal party and ads do not bother you, Evite's free designs cover a long list. If you only want an image to post or print, Canva's free plan will design one, though its plans page lists no RSVP tracking.
Wedvite is the better fit when the invitation itself matters to you: an envelope that opens, your schedule, a map and the RSVP on one link you send over WhatsApp. You can send it to 10 real guests before deciding whether it is worth $49 to you, and nothing is charged until you publish. If you do, the link those first guests already have becomes the published invitation.
