Small wedding invitations for micro and intimate weddings
Written by the Wedvite founders
For a small wedding, a digital invitation can cost nothing: design it free and share the link with your first 10 guests, RSVP included. If your list is longer, you pay $49 once for unlimited guests. Under 20 people, Greenvelope's smallest band is also cheaper than our flat price, so compare at your real count.
Wedvite's list price is $89. This code brings it to $49, applied automatically at checkout:

Competitor prices and features were read from the official pages on 15 September 2026: Greenvelope, Paperless Post, Evite. A cell reading "not verified on 15 September 2026" means the vendor's page did not state that figure on that date, so we leave it out rather than guess. Competitor prices are in US dollars; Wedvite's row is our own price in your currency. Prices change; confirm on the vendor's page before you buy.
Is a small wedding invitation free on Wedvite?
It can be. The free tier lets 10 different people open your invitation and reply, which covers a courthouse ceremony, an elopement with parents and witnesses, or a dinner for close family. They see the complete invitation, with the envelope, the schedule, the map and the RSVP, and nothing on it marks it as a free version. Their replies are saved as they arrive, though you read them only after publishing.
Above that, the maths depends on whom you compare with. Wedvite is $49 once for any number of guests. Greenvelope prices each mailing in bands: its band for up to 20 people costs less than ours, and its trial is free for 10. Paperless Post's first 50 invitations are free as a plain card without its envelope. Check the table at your exact count before you choose.
What should a small wedding invitation say?
A short list lets the wording be personal. You are writing to people you know well, so you can drop the formal third person and speak as yourselves. Say plainly that the wedding is small, so nobody wonders why a colleague or a cousin was not asked, and keep the practical details on the invitation rather than in the message.
If you are hosting a larger party later, mention it in the same invitation, so the people at the ceremony know there will be another chance to celebrate with everyone else. The party can sit on this invitation's schedule as a second event, or go out later on its own link to the wider list. Either way, nobody at the ceremony has to wonder whether the wider family will be celebrating too.
- ✦“We're marrying in a small ceremony with the people closest to us, and that means you. Join us on [date] at [place].”
- ✦“Just us, our families and one long table. We'd love you to be there on [date].”
- ✦“We've chosen a quiet wedding with a handful of people we love. Will you be one of them?”
- ✦“[Names] are getting married on [date] in an intimate ceremony, followed by dinner. Your company would mean a great deal to us.”
How do you tell people the wedding is small?
Tell them before the invitations go out, not after. The people most likely to be hurt are those who assumed they would be invited, so a phone call or a private message to them first does more than any wording. On the invitation itself, one sentence about keeping the day small is enough; explaining the budget or the venue's capacity tends to invite debate.
For people who are not invited to the ceremony, an announcement after the day is the usual courtesy, and our elopement announcement wording has examples. A reception-only invitation works if you are holding a larger party later. Either way, the wider circle hears the news from you directly rather than from photographs on social media, which is usually what people mind most about not being asked.
