Planning a wedding in Corfu
Two foreign nationals can marry legally on Corfu without holding any ceremony at home first, but the paperwork takes time and goes to the right town hall. Since the 2019 local-government reform the island has three municipalities — Central Corfu and Diapontian Islands, North Corfu and South Corfu — so confirm which one covers your venue before you file anything. Every foreign document (certificate of no impediment, birth certificate, passport copy, proof of your legal stay in Greece) has to be translated into Greek by an approved translator: the Foreign Ministry's translation service, a Greek consulate, a qualified Greek lawyer or a certified translator. Apostille certification applies only to documents issued outside Europe. The island's air link is more seasonal than couples expect: Corfu's airport sits 2.7 km south of the old town and handled 4.34 million passengers in 2024, but traffic runs April to October and most of the direct European routes simply stop outside that window, so a shoulder-month date can leave half your guest list connecting through Athens. The other constraint is water — Corfu is the wettest part of Greece, taking well over 1,000 mm of rain in a year against a few hundred on the Aegean islands, so an outdoor plan needs a covered fallback from late September onwards.
- When to marry — June and September are the sensible months: the sea is warm, evenings stay comfortable, and you avoid both the August package-holiday peak and the heavy autumn rain that starts arriving in October and peaks in November.
- What it costs — Hire and catering are quoted separately here, and the per-person side decides the total. Published catering rates start around €75 a head at estates such as Courti and climb steeply with menu, drinks and service; exclusive-hire properties bundle it differently again, with Courti's own entry figure sitting at €12,000 for a three-night low-season midweek rental for up to 50 guests, event fee included. Treat any headline number as indicative until you hold a written quote covering hire, catering, staff and a wet-weather option.
Once the venue is settled, the next thing most couples deal with is telling everyone. A digital wedding invitation carries the address, a map, your timings and a live RSVP on one link — which matters more than usual when guests are travelling to Corfu and need directions, and plenty of notice.
