Honeymoon passport names: check documents before changing tickets

British passports: understand post-dating
HM Passport Office allows an application in a new name up to three months before the ceremony, but the old passport is cancelled and the new passport is post-dated. It cannot be used before the ceremony. Some countries will not issue visas against a post-dated passport. German and Swedish guidance is not interchangeable
Germany's Foreign Office advises discussing a new-name passport with the responsible passport office; advance arrangements may be possible. Swedish police recommend booking imminent travel in the pre-change name and applying for a new document after returning. Check visas and transit before making changes
List each document and reservation connected to the trip, then check whether a replacement passport changes an authorization or requires a provider update. For travellers needing a Schengen visa, the Commission describes normal processing of 15 days with possible extension to 45; appointment waits can add time.
