Canva wedding invitation alternatives when you need RSVPs

Canva is a design tool, not an invitation service: you design the card free and send the file yourself. A JPG or PDF cannot collect RSVPs, play music, open a map or change after it is sent. Wedvite is $89 once for unlimited guests, with RSVP, music and later edits on one link.
What can't a Canva wedding invitation do?
A Canva invitation usually leaves Canva as a JPG or a PDF, and a file is a picture of an invitation. It can be beautiful, and it can be printed, but it cannot do anything once it lands in a guest's phone.
No RSVP. There is nowhere in an image to answer, so replies come back as messages across WhatsApp, text and email, and somebody keeps the list by hand. No edits after sending. If the venue or start time changes, you export a second file and send it again — and the first one is still in every chat. No music and no map. The address is printed text, not a pin a guest taps for directions. Not one link. The card, the RSVP form and any wedding website end up as three separate things to send.
We are describing the file, not every corner of Canva. Canva's plans page, which we read in a browser on 15 September 2026, names no RSVP, guest-list or invitation-delivery feature, so those cells in the table below read “not verified” rather than “No”.
Is Canva free for wedding invitations?
Yes. The Free plan costs €0 and covers a wedding invitation from a free template. Pro adds premium templates and elements. These are the plans published on Canva’s own pricing page on 15 September 2026:
- Free€0 (per year, one person (as shown to a European session))
- Pro€110 (per year, one person (as shown to a European session))
- Business€170 (per year, per person (as shown to a European session))
Canva served our session euro prices, so the figures above are in euros; the US-dollar prices were not verified, and Canva may show you a different currency. None of the plans charges per invitation or per guest — you pay for the design tool, and sending is up to you.
Wedvite's free tier works differently: you design the whole invitation free and share it with your first 10 guests, then pay $89once to publish it for everyone. On price alone, Canva's Free plan wins.
What do Canva and the invitation services cost for 100 guests?
Free on the Free plan (you design and share the file yourself). The services below send a real invitation with RSVP, and they price it four different ways: free, a band per mailing, Coins per recipient, or $89 flat with no guest limit.
| Service | Price model | Cost for 100 guests | Free tier | RSVP | Animated envelope | WhatsApp / text delivery | Ad-free for guests |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Canva | A design tool, not an invitation service: a Free plan or a yearly Pro subscription, with no charge per invitation or per guest | Free on the Free plan (you design and share the file yourself) | Yes — Canva Free: €0 per year for one person; "Design anything and bring your ideas to life. No cost, just creativity." | not verified on 15 September 2026 | not verified on 15 September 2026 | not verified on 15 September 2026 | not verified on 15 September 2026 |
| Minted | Online Invitations free; Minted charges only for flat extras such as a custom website address | Free ($0) | Yes — Free wedding websites include multiple layouts, event RSVPs, gift registries, maps and directions, a wedding party page, guest accommodations | Yes | No | Partly | Partly |
| Greenvelope | One flat price per mailing, set by the guest-count band, after a free trial for up to 10 people | $99 (flat, one mailing) | Partly — Send greeting cards to up to 10 people for free in trial mode. Any mailing or invitation sent to more than 10 people will require an upgrade. | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Paperless Post | Coins spent per recipient across four feature sets; the rate per guest falls as the list grows | ≤ $105 Premium (≤ $50 Basic, ≤ $144 All Access) — upper bounds, not a checkout total | Yes — the first 50 invitations sent via email or phone number directly through the Paperless Post site can be sent without purchase | Yes | Yes | Partly | Yes |
| Wedvite | $89 flat, paid once, unlimited guests, no per-guest fee | $89 | Partly — design everything free and share with your first 10 guests; pay once to publish for everyone | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Two rows cost nothing at 100 guests: Canva's Free plan and Minted's free Online Invitations. Canva's feature cells read “not verified on 15 September 2026” because its plans page does not describe RSVP, envelopes or delivery at all — read that as “not an invitation product”, not as a hidden yes. Greenvelope and Paperless Post both include an animated envelope; Paperless Post gates it behind its Premium feature set.
Wedvite's list price is $89. This code brings it to $49, applied automatically at checkout:
Use Canva for the paper, a link for the replies
Canva is the right tool when the invitation is going to a printer. You get a PDF you can take to any print shop, every element sits exactly where you put it, and the Free plan costs nothing. It is also the obvious choice when you want the menus, signs and place cards to match the invitation, because they can all come out of the same design file. If nobody needs to reply and nothing will change, a Canva image sent once is a complete answer.
A link is the right tool for everything that happens after the invitation goes out: replies, meal choices, a venue that moves, a timetable for the day, directions, guests abroad who read it in a WhatsApp group. Those are the jobs a file cannot do.
You can also do both. Print the Canva card for the grandparents and add a QR code that opens your online invitation — our free wedding QR code generator makes one — so the paper and the RSVP point to the same place. Digital versus paper invitations walks through the same split in more detail.
Is Wedvite easier than Canva for a wedding invitation?
It is a different kind of easy. Canva starts from a canvas: you can move, resize and restyle anything, which is freedom and also an afternoon of work. Wedvite starts from a finished invitation: you type your names, the date and the venue, swap in your photos, and add or remove sections. You do not drag elements around a blank page, so if total layout control is the point, Canva is the better tool.
What you get in return is everything a file leaves out. Guests tap a sealed envelope, it opens to the design's own music, and they scroll through your day, a venue map they can tap for directions and an RSVP form that asks who is coming and what they eat. Every reply lands in your dashboard. The invitation stays editable on the same link after it goes out, in any of 11 languages including right-to-left Arabic.
The cost is $89 once, for unlimited guests; your own song instead of the design's track is $10 more. See what Wedvite costs, how wedding invitations with RSVP work, or read the Wedvite FAQ.
Other Canva alternatives
Minted gives its Online Invitations away free, with RSVP and a free wedding website alongside; the card is a static single page with no envelope animation, sent by email or a copied link (Minted’s own help centre).
Greenvelope charges one flat price per mailing, set by the size of the guest list in bands, with a free trial for up to 10 people and the animated envelope on every design (Greenvelope’s own pricing page).
Paperless Post sells Coins spent per recipient across four feature sets, cheaper per guest as the list grows, with the envelope gated at Premium and above (Paperless Post’s own pricing page).
What a link does that a Canva file cannot
$89 once, unlimited guests, hosted through your wedding date and at least 90 days after.
Replies in one place
Guests answer on the invitation; names, numbers and meal choices arrive in your dashboard instead of scattered chats.
Changes reach everyone
Fix a time or a venue once. The link everyone already has shows the new version.
Music and a map
The envelope opens to the design's own track, and the venue is a pin guests tap for directions.
One link to send
Paste it into WhatsApp, a text or an email; it unfurls into a preview of your envelope.
