Rather than a single hotel, this is a low-rise quarter of several properties and a souk laid out around man-made saltwater channels, which guests cross by abra — the small wooden ferry that has worked Dubai Creek for generations. Fort Island is the space most couples are actually after: 1,750 square metres of open ground set against the resort's Arabesque rooflines, configured for banquet, cocktail or theatre seating and laid out for as many as 1,400. Indoors the Joharah and Murjaan ballrooms at Mina A' Salam take the overflow, and Al Qasr adds Layali Beach for a ceremony on sand. With 292 rooms and suites immediately around Fort Island, a large travelling guest list can sleep where the party is.
