Powderham Castle
CastleKenton, Exe estuaryUp to 120 for a ceremony or dinner in the Music Room
Built in 1391 and still the seat of the Courtenay family, Powderham advertises four licensed ceremony locations split between the state rooms and the grounds. The Music Room — a ballroom the 9th Earl added for his own parties, reached by a concealed door from the Libraries — is the largest at 120 for a ceremony or dinner, while the State Dining Room's linenfold oak panelling suits 80, with a minstrels' gallery above for a band or harpist. Outside, the Victorian Rose Terrace puts the castle at your back and the deer park and estuary in front, and the 18th-century Belvedere Tower has reopened after decades closed, its garden taking a marquee for 90. A former riding school, now called simply The Barn, serves couples who want the estate without the state rooms.
